What is Ayahuasca?

Ayahuasca is a plant based psychedelic made by long periods of boiling the Banisteriopsis Caapi vine with the leaves of the Psychotria Viridis shrub. The active chemical in the brew is DMT (dimethyltryptamine). It also has MAOI’s (monoamine oxidase inhibitors). Other names for Ayahuasca are, Huasca, yagé, Kamarampi, Huni, Brew, Daime, Tea and La Purga.

Ayahuasca is used in a ceremonial setting and has been part of a healing ritualistic practice for thousands of years mainly in Peru, Costa Rica and Brazil, but also in various other parts of the world. Many people have had miraculous experiences sitting in these ceremonies. Having Emotional, mental, spiritual and even physical healing. Ayahuasca has the potential to change a person’s entire life by bringing understanding and awareness to the different aspects of the person. The process of the ceremony can vary but in general the ceremonies are done at night and the Shaman will guide you through song, instruments or a practice called Icaros. The Shaman may also perform energetic work over you or guide you through your visions, emotions or whatever you may be experiencing. The experiences you can have are endless! Each ceremony can be completely different from the last and can be a totally incomparable process to another person.
